The greenhouse philosophy of La Serra revolves around using natural dyes and pigments in their organic Italian linens, inspired by nature and fauna. Each project is bespoke and unique, tailored to a specific occasion. The studio space is a perfect setting for creative collaboration and proves an inspiring location for their artisanal work and promotional events throughout the year.

ABOUT THE DESIGNERS

Margherita Pandolfini
Textile Designer

Margherita Pandolfini was born in Florence, but grew up traveling around the world and living in different places from New York to Spain to London. While settled in London, she studied Fashion and Textiles for her foundation and afterwards, Sculpture at Camberwell College of Arts. After graduating, she worked for several art galleries and fashion designers and also began creating her own artwork. Through art school, she began developing her skills in mixed media and the vibrant and stimulating city around her consistently inspired and allowed the opportunity to meet a diverse range of people and artists, shaping her creativity and style today. Having experimented and tried so many different paths, Margherita felt she needed a change to establish herself and focus on one specific path. So in 2009, she decided to try living in her native country of Italy, where she had never lived before. There, she met Karl who would then eventually become her business partner. Gathering all these past experiences and skills, she then implemented them into the establishment of La Serra MK Textile Atelier in Florence in 2009.

Karl Jorns
Textile Designer

Karl Jorns was born in Colombia from German father and Spanish mother, an interesting mixture that would then shape his style and work far into the future. He began his path in Architecture in Brazil, specializing in theatre costumes and fashion clothes. Here, he was very involved in the artistic movement of the late 80's: a great inspiration and starting point for his artistic career and artwork. Having developed an interest for fashion and textiles specifically, he then decided to move to Florence to study at the prestigious Polimoda. After graduating, he worked for a series of well established textile companies where he gained in depth experience with textiles and their technicality. All of these elements would be vital in his later encounter with Margherita, to establish La Serra MK Textile Atelier. He is currently still teaching and lecturing in Textile Design at the Polimoda school, Fondazione Museo del Tessuto Prato, European Fashion Academy, teaching also textile painting and design.
